Anyone in emergency services can understand the sergeant's frustration. People are often abusive and abrasive with 911 operators, first responders, cops. I've had people punch me, kick me, spit at me. But the one thing to remember, to always remember is to keep in mind that we are coming into people's lives at a time where they have admited to themselves that events are beyond their control and they need help. Knowing that you need to place trust in a stranger whose only outward difference from you is a uniform is a freightening prospect that can ingender some varying responses.
This cop forgot that the general public needs him to put aside his views on profane language and do his job. After 23 years on the job with numerous citations of merrit and no displinary action he probably just had one bad day where he got a bit upset with someone for swearing at him, he's probably been sworn at multiple times and never reacted that way but now he did that is all we see and its all the news will talk about.
I'm not condoning his actions, he wasted valuable time in not dispatching a bus to an incident and he should be dealt with for that. He let his emotions come into play in his job and thats never appropriate in this line of work.

anon—I get swung at, spit at, yelled at, and every other thing both imaginable and beyond your worst nightmare—That doesn't make it ok to withhold care.

This SOB didn't even take the time to figure out what the problem was. His EGO got in the way. Like I've said 100 times. When you can't handle it anymore, get the hell out.

He's all done. No question. And the young woman caller – she definitely has a case against the town and this really stupid cop.

    What was he thinking, anyway?
